”A slip of song, a breath of ice,
an echo of an owl’s discourse
on the full moon rising.

A silvered pine, spattered stardust
against an inky sky — I wonder 
who the owl calls for
on this Snow Moon Night.”

February is always an intriguing and challenging month….Colder weather, January’s hype around resolution and the holiday season a little more muted, and although spring is a ways off, there is just that hint in the air that the light is truly returning. And this month we have the Chinese New Year Wood Dragon to inspire us!

For inspiration (and information) I include below a recent article which explores a more positive take on stopping climate change, and another link to a panel discussion among Buddhists regarding the Burmese war. We hear little about this situation, and although it is considered one of the most destructive of current wars, it has an extraordinary resistance movement.

From Erika Burkhalte’s Hungry Moon

….. Beneath the wind-dried
skin of winter, something skitters,
thinks it’s safe.

But those talons, sharp, 
they prick the flesh, 
a delicate kill
of a momentary nature.

The owl, she eats tonight,
under the watchful eye
of the Hunger Moon.

One less soul goes hungry.

And I am left to ponder 
the vacuous nature
of spirit, bone, and time.
