A monthly online sangha of yoga nutz - teachers and keen practitioners!- through:
DEEP
Dharmic
Ecological
Exploratory
Practice
Our program has begun but it will be possible for a few dropins to join us each session. Info on monthly themes available mid Feb. The online material may not be available to dropin participants.
Each month participants have extra optional online support material for the theme, an opportunity to checkin with another participant, and a long practice session and forum for deepening the conversation. Our focus this year is inspired by oceanic life and our mammalian sea-creature kith and kin! Each month we will seek guidance from the ocean itself and a particular sea guru to support aquatic life within and without. We will also see the pelvis as the center of our own oceanic reality and asana exploration; each session will bring in a focus on a specific part of this oracle area of our bodies; we begin in the perineum, and will flow out to groin, thigh, iliacus, belly/womb, bone, bum/butt… - not necessarily in that order!
Support material will be included online and we will be referring to “Undrowned” by Alexis Pauline Gumbs as part of our reading. Here is a short section from Chapter 15, where she dives into the world of the sperm whale.
“go deep
What does it take to go deep, below the surface of current events and social media reactions? What would allow you to look at what is under your actions, and under that, and under that? Sperm whales dive a mile deep. Maybe they can give us some advice. And the ocean itself has so many depth lessons, when you think you’ve reached the bottom, there is sometimes still deeper to go. Take a breath……..”
First Sundays of the month - (note exceptions in May and July)
Feb 4 - Breath
Mar 3 - Dolphin’s Dorsal Fin - Stability, Joy and Direction in Practice - In this session, we will explore the power of this part of our anatomy - along side our sister sea mammalian! - the upper back and dorsal spine, and invite both a sense of clarity and joy in all aspects of our yoga and meditation.
April 7 - Waves and Water - Soft and Strong - This practice will bring us back deep into the pelvis and into an exploration of the groins and adductors using aquatic imagery and inspiration from our sea gurus!
No class in May
June 2 - Manta Ray and Deep Sea Divers - Using the imagery of manta ray and fin, this session will bring attention to the inner lining of the back pelvis, the iliacus sheath, sacrum and the “wings” of the ilium
June 30 Manatee Marvels! - Fullness and Fearlessness of Being - Deep Belly to outer Bums - A quieter slower practice to stay cool in summer…..
August 4 Starfish to Crab - Using the imagery of those that live in cracks and crannies of the tide pools to inspire our movement, fluidity and sense of protection. Hands to Pelvis connections. Periwinkle explorations!
