June: Manta Ray - Iliacus and Sacrum

RESOURCES: Deep and Round!
Remember everything below is OPTIONAL and only to be used to support your practice and study. No need to do any of it if it is not supportive.

Undrowned by Alexis Pauline Gumbis - Read Chapters 11, 12 and 13 These are very different chapters from each other but the common thread is protection and respecting variety, history and hiding from exploitation
Consider:
- Enjoy being in your iliacus this month, exploring the imagery of fluidity and curve in your sacrum. Watch the manta ray and ray videos prior to practice and see how these intelligent graceful strange beings impact your practice.
- The excerpt I read in class from Chapter 12 p106 talks about how some commercially oriented folks are working with WWF in a respectful way to support the local NZ white front dolphin. This sense of roundness of the mammal and the roundness of sustainable co-existence can seep into our various practices. How much can this roundness of being be reflected in our breath and movement practices? Where else do we find this natural roundness, meeting of needs, caring?
- Sediment and Depth in your being. In Chapter 13, follow Alexis’s story of the missing Atlantic grey whales and how this could be connected to the tragic story of slavery. Who knows what the depths hold? Who knows what tragedy and pain is absorbed into our fellow creatures? How do we digest and let sink the pressures and conflicts that we face day to day? How does that get reflected in the way we swim and glide from day to day? Please read the last invocation at the end of the chapter. How do these direct messages to the reader, to those of her community impact you?
