Join Jess Thompson, master artist and yogi of Cider Creek Collective and Mary Paffard, eternal clay novice and earth-celebrating yoga teacher, for a day of play and exploration using the clay of the earth and the earth of our bodies.
When we make things with clay, we not only change the shape of our physical world but also affect how we feel in our bodies, and our connection to the earth. In this day of clay modeling, meditation, and yoga, we’ll play with the relationship between our bodies and sculptural material, and explore sources of creativity within tangible, simple, meditative practices that all support “Earthing” - sensing ourselves as processes within a larger whole. All are welcome: beginning to advanced, non-yogis, yogis, non-artists, artists, et al!
There is no emphasis on having to make a completed object in this session - we let go of the “fruits of our actions” as the Gita says, and let the earth return to earth. No firing will occur at this workshop but you are welcome to take home your work if you do not wish it to return back to the clay below!
This workshop will occur at the Cider Creek Collective on the coast, owned by Jess and her partner Nick Schwartz, long time ceramic artists and community creatives! It happens to also have been the site in the past of many yoga retreats taught by Mary and is a beautiful piece of the Mendocino coastal area, ideal for creative and spirit nourishment. Please see Jess and Nick’s website for the exciting work they are doing there.
Mary: “I have always delighted in bringing the creative voice more fully into the yoga, and also seeing how yoga and meditation bring an authenticity and embodied quality into artistic expression and into the creative options we become open to in our day to day lives. Jess, as a young artist, came to apprentice at a local studio, and attended classes and teachers programs at Yoga Mendocino and SoBo studio in Anderson Valley. I have enjoyed watching her evolution as an extraordinary artist and teacher and have had the pleasure of being in her clay classes - which are phenomenal and totally accessible to all of whatever level you may be”.
So this is an experiment that we knew we would enjoy collaborating on, and bringing to the community. It will be an outdoor event and if weather is inclement your fees will be refunded. We will have a maximum of 12 students, so register early this time around.
Out of Towners - It may be possible to camp the night before at Cider Creek for a fee. Or consider the many air b n bs and hotels in the area if you are spending the weekend on the coast.
